PREFACE This Customer Software Release Notice (CSRN) provides important information for using Release 01.54.10 of the VS Extended Data Management System package. This package runs on VS Operating System version 07.54.10 or later. This document describes the changes made to Release 01.54.10. In addition, it provides installation and packaging information. This CSRN is organized as follows: . Chapter 1 describes any new enhancements to the VS Extended Data Management System package. . Chapter 2 details the minimum hardware and software required to use this release. . Chapter 3 lists problems that have been corrected since Release 1.54.00. . Chapter 4 lists the restrictions and special considerations. . Chapter 5 lists the files included in this release package. . Chapter 6 details instructions on installing the Extended Data Management System Package on a 07.54.10 or later VS Operating System. CHAPTER 1 ENHANCEMENTS The Operating System and XDMS have been enhanced to move the XDMS Shared Area (XDSA) over the 16 MB boundary. This provides two major advantages: 1. The freed space below the 16 MB boundary can be given to GETMEM, thus allowing more tasks, users, open files etc. 2. The maximum size of the XDSA can be made significantly larger, up to 15 MB. Previously the size of the XDSA was in the area of 2MB. CHAPTER 2 HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS 2.1 HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS This package runs on those CP types supported by VSOS 07.54.10. 2.2 SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS VS Operating System version 07.54.10 or later. CHAPTER 3 CORRECTED PROBLEMS N/A CHAPTER 4 RESTRICTIONS AND SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS A task crash may occur if the WSN directory file, @DIRECT@, is in XDMS format. To circumvent this problem REORG the file to DMS format. Using the Restore function of BACKUP, restore libraries @SYSTEM@, @TXUSER@ and CSRNLIB from the distribution media to the system volume. On the BACKUP Options screen, set DUPFILES = SCRATCH. 2. After installing XDMS, several GENEDIT options should be set which affect the processing of indexed-plus files. These options are explained in Chapter 7 of the VS XDMS Reference Manual. 3. Re-IPL the system to have the GENEDIT options take effect. 6.2 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SYSTEM UPGRADES: 1. IPL the system from an alternate IPL volume. 2. Using the Restore function of BACKUP, restore libraries @SYSTEM@, @TXUSER@ and CSRNLIB from the distribution media to the system volume. On the BACKUP Options screen, set DUPFILES = SCRATCH. 3. After restoring the XDMS files, several GENEDIT options should be set which affect the processing of indexed-plus files. These options are explained in Chapter 7 of the VS XDMS Reference Manual. 3.
