SOFTWARE RELEASE NOTICE for VS Workstation Personality Utility Version 07.11.00 December 1999 Company Confidential (001217) Release Abstract The VS Workstation Personality Utility package is a collection of programs, VS procedure routine and a default personality record file that allows a user to define, maintain and load workstation personality information. WSPERSON is the Workstation Personality Editor. The WSPERSON program will allow a user to create, edit, save, and restore personality records for use in the 2256MWS, 4230MWS, 4245MWS, PCMWS/4250IMG, 4230, 4245 color workstation, PCSWS/2256C, and LANWS environment. See section 2.2 for software requirements. WSRSTR is a support utility program which will prompt the user to enter the filename and storage location of a personality file, or the output glossary file created by the glossary compiler, and load it into the user's workstation. WSLOAD is a VS procedure routine which will input the current user's personality filename (derived from the user logon identifier) and storage location parameters to the WSRSTR utility program eliminating the need for user intervention. WSSAVE is a support utility program which will prompt the user to enter the filename and storage location to be created in which the personality currently in the workstation will be saved. @STDFILE is the default personality record file for supporting WSPERSON 7.10.00 or higher. WSPERSON and other components in Release 7.11 are Year 2000 compatible. 2.0 Pre-Requisites and Dependencies 2.1 VS Hardware Pre-Requisites The hardware components include: 1) An extended serial IOP/IOC appropriate to the VS CPU being used. 2) The VS Workstation hardware requirements are any of the following workstations: a) 2256C workstation b) PC/APC/PC200-300-400/PS2 model/4450/4451 with appropriate Wang Local Office Connection hardware. c) 4245 Color Workstation d) 4230/4230A/4230B/4430 workstations 2.2 Software Pre-Requisites The Software components required for WSPERSON are: VS 7.21.09 Operating System or higher; for Year 2000 compliance VS 7.53.00 Operating System or higher; VS PLI Runtime 2.12.02 or later; for Year 2000 compliance VS PLI Runtime 7.53.02 or later VS File Management Utilities 3.02.5 or later VS 7.40.00 Operation System for personality save and restore feature for restoring MWS user to window invoking a code loading application such as WP/WP Plus. VS 7.10.00 @MC4245 Workstation Microcode or higher VS 7.10.00 @MC4230 Workstation Microcode of higher VS 7.10.00 @MCPCSWS Workstation Microcode of higher VS 7.10.00 @MC2256C Workstation Microcode of higher LANWS - VSTW 3.0 or higher VS MultiStation version 7.10 or higher which includes: VS 7.10.00 @2256MWS Workstation Microcode or higher VS 7.10.00 @4230MWS Workstation Microcode or higher VS 7.10.00 @4245MWS Workstation Microcode or higher VS 7.10.00 @4250IMG Workstation Microcode or higher When using PC and WLOC hardware the required version of workstation emulation software is listed: 2.19i of LCO software or higher 2.50 of WLOC software or higher 1.00 of MCLOC software or higher 3.10 of WINLOC software or higher 3.0 Restrictions and Special Considerations WSPERSON release version 07.10.00 or later does not support workstation personality files created by earlier versions of WSPERSON. Version 07.10.00 (or higher) of WSPERSON will support the workstation indexed personality files created by WSPERSON version 07.10.00 (or higher) only. Users of VS MultiStation (MWS) 7.00.00 or earlier, will need to use WSPERSON 7.00.05 which supports consecutive formatted personality files. The Glossary record is not affected by the file change, but must be linked to the new personality file for use. To link a previously created glossary record into the new personality file, the user needs to enter the glossary editor through WSPERSON and exit back to WSPERSON. (You do not need to re-compile the Glossary.) This release of WSPERSON supports the workstation types and version numbers of the microcodes listed in "Software Pre-Requisites". For LANWS keyboard restrictions using WSPERSON, refer to LANWS documentation/SRN. When using WSPERSON to turn off the bell or clicker in the workstation optional features section, the volume is automatically set to zero for workstations that support volume. If you wish to turn on the bell or clicker the volume level must be set to a value other than zero as well as specifying Y to Bell or Clicker option. When using WSPERSON to set Workstation Mode to Graphics in the Workstation Options section the Enable Color Control must be set to N. If the user selects Graphics for the Workstation Mode and Enable Color Control is set to Y, WSPERSON will automatically change the Enable Color Control to N and display an error message. User should select PCSWS when creating/editing a device specific personality record that will be used in a device configured as a 2256C device type using @MC2256C microcode 7.10.00. User should select PCMWS when creating/editing a device specific personality record that will be used in a device configured as a 4250IMG device type using @4250IMG microcode 7.10.00. System Administrator should select "signal error" or "scratch file" on error message screen when creating a copy of microcode with current personality record and the output file specified by the System Administrator already exists. DO NOT SELECT "append". PTR # Priority Description: _____ ________ ___________ P100018714 P2 After remapping to another character, the following 724 and 724 extended keypad keys will not remap back to it's original value: unshifted and shifted plus and minus. Comment: Functions as designed. User must exit edit session and start again when needing to change the mapping of any of these keypad keys more than once: plus, minus, multiply and period. This action is needed to compensate for keyboard hardware restrictions. 4.0 Enhancements VS Workstation Personality Utilities are Year 2000 compatible. 5.0 Problems Corrected 5.1 Problems Corrected in Release 07.11.00 PTR # Problem Description: E134416 When WSPERSON is linked from a program that sets R00, the program crashes with a PC06. (In addition, the user would have to be remotely logged on to the system for the program crash to occur or using a workstation that does not support workstation personality.) E134417 Problem with WSPERSON after compiling a glossary. The incorrect glossary source file name will be displayed on the EDIT GLOSSARIES screen at the end of the second compilation if user first Edits/Compiles source file then Compiles a different source file. 6.0 Known Anomalies The default keyboard mappings in @STDFILE have not been checked against the mappings used in earlier versions of the microcodes. Some differences may be expected, but can be changed by the site administrator at installation time if desired. The word ENTER does not appear on the keyboard editing layout screens. When selecting a PFkey option on certain screens of WSPERSON, a shifted value of a supported PFKey does not sound the audio alarm when pressed. When editing the Workstation Options section of a global record, if the user changes the Workstation Mode without setting the Enable Color Control to the appropriate corresponding value WSPerson will generate error message. The user must set the Enable Color Control to N if the Workstation Mode is Graphics or set the Enable Color Control to Y/N if the Workstation Mode is DP. 7.0 Media Contents LIBRARY=@SYSTEM@ PROTECTION FILE VERSION CLASS WSPERSON 7.11.00 @ WSRSTR 7.11.00 @ WSSAVE 7.11.00 @ WSLOAD 7.11.00 @ LIBRARY=WSPER @STDFILE 7.10.03 $ LIBRARY=GL SAMPLE none $ LIBRARY=GLOBJ SAMPLE none $ LIBRARY=@DOCLIB@ MTDUTIL none $ 8.0 Installation Instructions Note: It is recommended that any old consecutive formatted personality files used with pre 7.10 workstation microcodes be converted to indexed formatted personality files before using this software.
