Enabling Direct Memory Access (DMA) - SW1 . The VS-ML-FAX can transfer data to the FLC via Direct Memory Access (DMA) or Programmed I/O (PIO). DMA provides better performance in a 486 system and is recommended. Set dip switch 1 on SW1, to the ON position on one (and only one) installed VS-ML-FAX. Note: The DMA enable switch, must only be set to the ON position on ONLY one of the installed VS-ML-FAXs. c. Setting the DMA Channel - J31. The DMA channel is selected by jumpers at location J31, just below J32. Two jumpers are required, one for each channel. Both jumpers must be placed correctly for proper DMA operation. Note: Dip switch 1 on SW1, must be set to the ON position on one (and only one) installed VS-ML-FAX for DMA to function properly. To set the DMA channel move the two jumpers on J31 to the selected channel. The DMA channel may be set to 1, 2, or 3. _______________________________________________________________________________ VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00 Page 13 Release Notice 4th Edition -- September 1999 d. Setting the Hardware Interrupt - J32/J33. Note: All VS-ML-FAXs in a single FLC must share the same interrupt. Interrupt 5 is recommended. The VS-ML-FAX generates interrupts to the FLC. These interrupts are handled by the RESXMIT device driver. A jumper, placed on J32 OR J33, selects the interrupt. Both channels on the VS-ML-FAX and all other VS-ML-FAXs installed in the same FLC share the same interrupt. Only one jumper can be installed: either on J32 or J33. J32 supports interrupts 2 through 7. J33 supports interrupts 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15. Interrupt numbers 2 through 7 are labelled on the silk screen underneath J32, and interrupt numbers 10 through 15 are labeled on the silk screen above J33. To select an interrupt from 2 through 7, place the jumper on the pair of pins above the correct interrupt number on J32. To select an interrupt from 10 through 15, place the jumper on the pair of pins below the correct interrupt number on J33. For optimum performance, these drives should be configured as: drive C, taking up 100% of the first physical drive and drives D and E, taking up 50% each of the second physical drive. If the FLC does not contain three physical fixed disk drives, logical or virtual drives must be setup on the existing physical drives. This chapter explains logical and virtual drives. LOGICAL DRIVES A logical drive is a portion of the extended DOS partition that you use as if it were a separate disk drive. A logical drive is not physically separate from your fixed disk, but DOS treats its as if it were. When you create a logical drive with the DOS FDISK command, you assign it a drive letter and a size. Each logical drive you create behaves, and can be treated, as if it were a real (physical) disk drive. A partition is a portion of a fixed disk. You can have two types of DOS partitions on a fixed disk: the primary DOS partition and an extended DOS partition. The primary DOS partition is the one you dedicate to DOS. The extended DOS partition, lets you create a second partition and thus divide the storage space on a large fixed disk into two smaller units, both of them usable to DOS. To create partitions and define logical disk drives refer to the FDISK command in your DOS User's Guide. Note: When partitioning and configuring logical drives, be aware that drive C must be large enough to accommodate all inbound and outbound packages, drive D must be large enough to accommodate all G3 to WIFF conversion processing and drive E must be large enough to accommodate all the line and scheduling data. _______________________________________________________________________________ Page 16 VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00 Release Notice 4th Edition -- September 1999 VIRTUAL DRIVES You can create a virtual drive by using the DOS substitute (SUBST) command. SUBST tells DOS to treat a subdirectory as if it were an additional disk drive in your system. The drive letter you assign represents a virtual drive, which you can use as if it were a physical drive. To use the substitute command to associate a path with a drive letter refer to the SUBST command in your DOS User's Guide. Notes: Substitute commands should be specified in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The use of the virtual drives is recommended over logical drives. _______________________________________________________________________________ VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00 Page 17 Release Notice 4th Edition -- September 1999 CHAPTER 6 FAX LINK CONTROLLER SOFTWARE INSTALLATION OVERVIEW The VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00, is customer installable. General Information - To run the Fax Gateway Task (FGT)/Fax Link Controller (FLC) link: Restart (boot) the FLC. Logon to the VS, using any VS Logon ID, and run the procedure FGT in library @SYSTEM@ on the system volume. When requested, press the CTRL+EXEC (END) keys to suspend workstation emulation. The AUTOEXEC.BAT file will continue execution and initiate FLC processing. Note: The VS Logon Id used to run FGT must be configured, in the VS Security module, with a Modifiable Data Area Size of 2048 Kilobytes (KB) or more. - The first time the FGT/FLC link is established between a particular FLC and the VS host system, the FLC passes the FLC configuration data to the FGT task. The FGT task updates the VS Multiline Facsimile database with the configuration data from the FLC. - If a FLC is moved from one workstation device number to another, the old FLC configuration information, stored in the VS Multiline Facsimile database must be deleted using the Fax Configuration Management Utility (FCMU), before the FGT/FLC link is established from the new device number. - The version of the FLC component of the VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway software and the version of the VS host component of the VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway software must match or the FLC will halt with an 8001050F error. _______________________________________________________________________________ VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00 Page 41 Release Notice 4th Edition -- September 1999 - On the 486 system, if the EMM386.EXE memory driver is not installed in the \DOS directory on drive C, the AUTOEXEC.BAT installed by the FLC component of the VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway must be modified to correct the location of the memory driver. - If the Wang Local Office Connection (WLOC) software is not installed in the \WANG directory on drive C, the AUTOEXEC.BAT installed by the FLC component of the VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway must be modified to correct the location of WLOC software. - Having more than one (1) physical disk drive will reduce disk contention and increase performance on a FLC. The size of the fixed disks is dependent on the amount and type of fax traffic to be handled by the FLC. - If FLCMAIN.EXE halts, with a non-fatal error, or if the FGT/FLC link is terminated and the RESXMIT TSR is still loaded on the FLC, the FLC will continue to receive inbound fax traffic until all the disk space on drive C has been exhausted. At that point the RESXMIT TSR will stop receiving inbound traffic. - On the 486 system, the CONFIG.SYS file should load HIMEM.SYS and then the EMM386.EXE memory driver. This can be accomplished by specifying in the CONFIG.SYS file: DEVICE = C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS DEVICE = C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 1024 RAM FRAME=E000 x=D000-DFFF - On the 486 system, to prevent conflicts with the WLOC software the EMM386.EXE memory driver should be configured to exclude page frames D000 - DFFF. This can be accomplished by specifying in the CONFIG.SYS file: DEVICE = C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 1024 RAM FRAME=E000 x=D000-DFFF - When the RESXMIT TSR loads the driver should display a message: Brooktrout Fax-Mail 1.26 Resident Scheduler installed. _______________________________________________________________________________ Page 42 VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00 Release Notice 4th Edition -- September 1999 If an error message is reported or the FLC hangs, check your configuration and try reloading the RESXMIT TSR. You may need to change the channel addresses and/or the interrupt settings of the VS-ML-FAXs. FLCMAIN will spawn the RESXMIT TSR. If you are on a 486 system running above 33Mhz, you may need to modify the /t option to the AUTOEXEC.BAT FLCMAIN load statement. This increases a RESXMIT timing constant for faster systems and must be a multiple of 2. The default is /t12. For example, for a 486DX/66Mhz, you may try changing the AUTOEXEC.BAT load statement to: loadhigh FLCMAIN /l /x /t16 /b /f - To rerun the FLC configuration program, perform the following steps: Restart (boot) the FLC. When the VS Logon screen is displayed press CTRL+EXEC (END) Select "Suspend Emulation" or "Terminate Emulation" and press ENTER. Press CTRL+C to terminate the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Respond to the confirmation request: Terminate batch job (Y/N)? - type Y. Type c: and press ENTER. Type cd \fmail and press ENTER. Type resxmit -k and press ENTER. Type config and press ENTER. Make changes as necessary. Select Quit from the Configuration Menu and press ENTER. Respond to the remaining questions. When the MS-DOS command prompt is redisplayed, restart (boot) the FLC. _______________________________________________________________________________ VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00 Page 43 Release Notice 4th Edition -- September 1999 - When outbound fax packages have been accepted by the FLC from the VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway host system, the FLC creates a schedule for the fax transmission. If the FLC is restarted while outbound packages are still resident on the FLC, the FLC rebuilds the scheduling file during the initialization process. The rebuilding process may take seconds or make take hours. The amount of time required to complete the rebuilding process is dependent on the number of recipients per outbound entry resident on the FLC. FLCMAIN Options FLCMAIN.EXE is the Fax Link Controller main driver, that runs in foreground under MS-DOS. The driver controls communications between the VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway host system and the RESXMIT.EXE device driver. There are several command line options available: /? Display command line options /m:xxx Set left margin on outbound non-image documents. Value is specified in 1/1200 inch units. Default is 300. /r:xxx Set right margin on outbound non-image documents. Value is specified in 1/1200 inch units. Default is 300. /p:x Set page length for outbound fax transmission. Valid values are: 0 - A4 (11.6 inches) Maximum 68 lines per page. 1 - US Letter (11 inches) Maximum 63 lines per page. 2 - B4 or US Legal (14 inches) Maximum 81 lines per page. Default is 0 - A4 (11.6 inches) Maximum 68 lines per page. /n[:xxx] Enable "narrow" printing. Value is specified in 1/1200 inch units. Default is 120 - 10 pitch (81 characters per line). Other useful values are: 106 - standard narrow (91 characters per line) 100 - 12 pitch (97 characters per line) /l Display status messages on screen. /c FLC functions in standalone mode. /e FLC functions is standalone mode with loop back enabled. /i Perform inbound recovery only. /x Spawn RESXMIT.EXE. RESXMIT will be installed in high memory if FLCMAIN.EXE is run the the LOADHIGH option. _______________________________________________________________________________ Page 44 VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00 Release Notice 4th Edition -- September 1999 /tnn Set RESXMIT.EXE internal timing counter. This option may be needed when using faster systems and must be a multiple of 2. For example a 486DX/66Mhz might need to set this to at least 16. The default is 12. Only used in conjunction with the /x option. /b Disable beeping from occurring. Only used in conjunction with the /x option. /f This will cause FLCMAIN.EXE to cancel when it detects the FGT task is no longer active, allowing the VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway administrator to cancel RESMIT.EXE closing the ACTIVITY.LOG file. To cancel RESXMIT.EXE upon the completion of FLCMAIN.EXE enter the following at the MS-DOS prompt: resxmit -k. NOTE: Cancelling RESXMIT closes the log files and phone lines, thereby reducing the risk of damaged inbound or outbound faxes. NOTE: The FLC will not detect the VS task being cancelled if all phone lines are inbound only. This is because, if all lines are inbound only, the FLC will not check the VS for any outbound faxes and will not notice the VS task has been cancelled until an inbound fax has been retrieved to be forwarded to the VS. RESXMIT Options RESXMIT.EXE is a TSR that runs in the background under MS-DOS. The driver does most of the work involved in sending and receiving faxes and provides transparent group 3 fax compatibility for FLCMAIN.EXE. There are several command line options available: -b Disable beeping from occurring. -tnn Set internal timing counter. This option may be needed when using faster systems and must be a multiple of 2. For example a 486DX/66Mhz might need to set this to at least 16. The default is 12. -k De-install RESXMIT.EXE. Fax Link Controller Dump Utility The Fax Link Controller Dump utility (FLCDUMP.EXE) is a diagnostic tool which can be used by GetronicsWang Co. to help analyze problems with the Fax Link Controller. FLCDUMP.EXE may also be useful to reinitialize the state of a FLC. The FLCDUMP.EXE utility will: delete all pending inbound and outbound fax files, delete the existing scheduling file (FAXSCHED.DAT), copy the EVENTLOG, TXQUEUE and MSGQUEUE files to a "dump" file, and re-initialize the EVENTLOG, TXQUEUE, MSGQUEUE, CURRNUMS, BLAKLIST files. Note: The FLCDUMP.EXE utility should not be run without first contacting your GetronicsWang Support Center or your local GetronicsWang representative. _______________________________________________________________________________ VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00 Page 45 Release Notice 4th Edition -- September 1999 CHAPTER 7 VS HOST SOFTWARE INSTALLATION OVERVIEW The VS Multiline Facsimile Gateway, Release 2.00.00, is customer installable.
