At least 2MB of memory is required. The system must include at least two (2) disk drives. For adequate performance on a two disk system the drive/volume capacity should be a minimum of 147MB each. 2.2 Software 2.2.1 Series 7 VS Operating System minimum release/version is 7.53.01. Requires minimum release/version 9.20.00 of Wang Systems Networking VS Network Core. 2.3 Installation Responsibility 2.3.1 VS Directory Services 3.02.01.00 is customer installable. Page 4 VS Directory Services, Software Release Notice Release 3.02.01.00 1st Edition -- June 1999 3.0 RESTRICTIONS AND SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS 3.1 Before Installing VS Directory Services Overlay release 3.02.01.00 3.1.1 When installing this software refer to SECTION 6 of this Software Release Notice. 3.1.2 The following software must be installed prior to installing VS Directory Services: 7.53.01 or greater of the Series 7 VS Operating System 9.20.00 or greater of WSN VS Network Core. 3.02.00 or greater of VS OFFICE 3.2 System Issues 3.2.1 7.53.01 or greater of the Series 7 VS Operating System must be installed prior to installing VS Directory Services. 3.2.2 There must be a minimum of 1 MB (1024 KB) of Modifyable Data Area allocated for each user. The size of each user's Modifyable Data Area is specified using the VS Security module. If a user has less then 1024 KB Modifyable Data Area, VS Directory Services will complete with Return Code 200. 3.2.3 There must be a minimum of 1 MB (1024 KB) of Program Code Area. If a user has less than 1024 KB Program Code Area unexpected results may occur. To calculate the size of the Program Code Area subtract the size of the user's Modifiable Data Area from the size of the address space available.1 1 The VS system provides each user with up to 3 MB of contiguous logical address space on 8-MB systems and up to 8 MB of contiguous logical address space on 16-MB systems. When the size of the Modifiable Data Area is pre-allocated, this area remains dedicated to the program stack, buffer, and static data, even if it is not completely utilized. All remaining space in the user's address area is available for program code. For more information refer to Chapter 6 VS Operating System Services Reference Release 7 Series. VS Directory Services, Software Release Notice Page 5 Release 3.02.01.00 1st Edition -- June 1999 3.0 RESTRICTIONS AND SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS (Cont) 3.2.4 There must be a minimum of 1 MB (1024 KB) of Modifiable Data Area and a minimum of 1 MB, 1024 KB, of Program Code Area for noninteractive tasks. If a task has less than 1024 KB Program code area or Modifiable Data Area, unexpected results may occur. 3.2.5 When running with a VS Operating System that supports multiple volume sets, all volumes within the set must be mounted. 3.2.6 When running with a VS Operating System which supports the Remote Sharing Facility, RSF, all VS Directory Services program files must reside on disks physically attached to the system. For adequate performance results all VS Directory Services data files should reside on disks physically attached to the system. 3.2.7 VS Directory Services requires 3 or more noninteractive tasks. The following list, of tasks, is included to help plan for requirements at each individual site: $DSMGR$ (@DSMGR@) A dedicated Class A task to provide network meeting scheduling and PC OFFICE synchronization functionality. $SYNDIR$ (DIRSYNC) Available Class A task(s) in which the Directory Synchronization procedures may run, when submitted BDSPROC (BDSBACK) Available Class A task in which the Directory Services housekeeping procedure may run, when submitted. 3.2.8 To provide optimum performance it is recommended that VS Directory Services software be installed on a non-System volume. 3.2.9 To provide optimum performance it is recommended that VS Directory Services data files and libraries reside on non-System volumes. 3.2.10 To provide optimum performance it is recommended that the volumes where VS OFFICE and VS Directory Services data files reside be backed up, reinitialized and restored on a regular basis. Page 6 VS Directory Services, Software Release Notice Release 3.02.01.00 1st Edition -- June 1999 3.0 RESTRICTIONS AND SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS (Cont) 3.3 WSN VS Network Core (WSN Standard Components) 3.3.1 WSN VS Network Core (WSN Standard Components), 09.20.00 or greater must be installed prior to installing VS Directory Services. WSN VS Network Core is not required for standalone VS OFFICE systems, however, it is required to create the Directory. 3.3.2 When configuring the network, no system other than the NCC itself may act as the ACC for the NCC's area. 3.3.3 Never reuse an Area and Node ID even after all the users have been deleted. 3.3.4 WSNREORG or a manual reorganization of the Directory and the Directory Synchronization file should be run daily and at least after every IPL of the system. 3.3.5 WSNREORG or a manual reorganization of the Directory and the Directory Synchronization file must be run if the Directory was open at the time of a system halt. 3.4 VS Directory Services 3.4.1 OFM is no longer supported by VS Directory Services, but if the system is an ACC or the NCC it will store and propagate OFM records stored in the directory. 3.4.2 Directory synchronization between VS and PC systems occurs only when initiated by the PC system. 3.4.3 No validity tests on the System Name are made on the information provided for the OIS/Alliance mailbox. 3.4.4 The Directory file must be backed up regularly, since information in it is critical to the successful operation of VS OFFICE. Since the directory is opened by VS OFFICE interactive and background tasks, as well as Wang System Networking tasks, the BACKUP utility will not be able to open the file exclusively but COPY may be used. The program WSNREORG in the Wang Systems Networking Standard Components provides a convenient way to back up the directory. It will create a copy in a library called WSNREORG on the same volume as the directory. The program will reorganize the file containing the Directory, which improves system performance, disk space utilization, and rebuilds the DMS alternate indices. VS Directory Services, Software Release Notice Page 7 Release 3.02.01.00 1st Edition -- June 1999 3.0 RESTRICTIONS AND SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS (Cont) 3.4.5 If the Directory is ever damaged and needs to be restored from backup; to maintain VS OFFICE and VS Directory Services database consistency the following files and libraries should be restored as a complete set: VS OFFICE Files ENVLIB - VS OFFICE Envelope library @WOCTL@ - VS OFFICE Control File library @WOINFO@ - VS OFFICE Database file LISTS - VS OFFICE Distribution Lists file LCBUFFER - Local Delivery Buffer file RTELISTS - VS OFFICE Route Lists TCBUFFER - Network Delivery Buffer file Info Card files (INFxxxxx) Correspondence Log files (CORxxxxx) VS OFFICE WP Plus External Reference Libraries SFACT - Store and Forward Activity file VS Directory Files @DIRCTL@ - VS Directory Services Control file VS Directory file @DIRSYN@ - VS Directory Synchronization update file SCHEDLIB - Meeting Scheduling Database library1 NOTE: Any mail delivered since the time of the last backup or any mail in process will be lost. 3.4.6 If the Directory is deleted or damaged, and a backup is not available, it will be necessary to remove the Directory and VS OFFICE data from the system, and reinitialize all Directory and VS OFFICE data files. To recover Directory information a download can be performed. 3.4.7 VS Directory Services no longer contains the support for the maintenance of CNS Application records. WSNAPPS packaged with Wang Systems Networking WSN VS Network Core provides the functionality to maintain non-Wang OFFICE Application records. 3.4.8 If the name of an application is changed, users attached to that application will not received mail until the user's record is updated by executing through the user's record. 1 The files in SCHEDLIB are used by both VS OFFICE and VS Directory Services.
