Software Release Notice for ADEPT Version 01.03.00 Date Submitted: 03/05/1998 1.0 Release Abstract ________________ ADEPT (Advanced Editing Productivity Tool) is a an editing tool to be used in creating, modifying, and updating source and data files on the VS. Version 1.03.00 is a General Release providing a Year 2000 compliant date command in a slightly different format than the previous releases. 2.0 Prerequisites and Dependencies ______________________________ 2.1 Hardware Prerequisites ______________________ None. 2.2 Software Prerequisites ______________________ Operating system version 7.53.00 or later, running with a minimum MDA of 1024. 3.0 Special Considerations ______________________ 3.1 Tailoring ADEPT to Improve Its Performance __________________________________________ Many features have been put into previous versions of ADEPT to make it as easy for novice users as possible, and some of these have a significant impact on ADEPT's start-up time. After you have responded to ADEPT's input screen, the following actions will normally occur: - The system edstart file is loaded. - Your own edstart file (if specified on the screen) is loaded. - If a language is specified on the input screen, language specific initializations are performed, followed by the loading of the system language start-up file. - Your own language start-up file (if it exists) is loaded. There are two primary considerations to improving start-up performance. The first is to omit the specification of a language on the input screen if the compiler interface will not be used, and to put your language specific commands (like TABS and CASE) into your own edstart file. Or, if the compiler interface is to be used, the decision to initialize the compiler database can be postponed to later in the editing session (just prior to a compilation). The other action which can be taken to reduce startup overhead is to remove all commented out commands from the various startup files. The commented lines are provided to make tailoring the startup files a straightforward process, but do incur extra overhead to be read. 4.0 Enhancements ____________ The DATE command is now year 2000 compliant. The date format has been changed as follows: For systems IPL'd with the American date format the date returned is the result of the 'HL' function of the DATE4 VSSUB. This format has become the standard for most application listing headers. For systems IPL'd with the European format the date returned is similar, the difference is that the month and day are reversed. Examples are: American format: old Thursday, March 5, 1998 new Thursday March 5, 1998 8:40 AM European format: old Thursday, 5 March 1998 new Thursday 5 March, 1998 8:40 AM 5.0 Problem Corrected Since Release 1.02.12 ________________________________________ None. 6.0 Known Anomalies _______________ None. 7.0 Media Contents ______________ ADEPT is supplied on a single tape or multiple diskettes. Log on as a security administrator. 2. Mount disk or tape volume ADEPT. If the installation media is multiple diskettes, then mount the first diskette of the set. 3. Run BACKUP with the following values to restore the _______ installation procedure to a location on disk: Input values: _____ FILE = INSTALL LIBRARY = ADEPTRUN VOLUME = ADEPT (Or first release diskette volume name) FUNCTION = RESTORE Output values: ______ FILE = INSTALL LIBRARY = ADEPTRUN VOLUME = (Your choice) 4. Leave the disk or tape volume ADEPT mounted. 5. Run INSTALL procedure in library ADEPTRUN from the disk volume specified as the output volume in Step #3. When installing from multiple diskettes, BACKUP (called by the INSTALL procedure) will prompt you to replace volume ADEPT (and subsequent diskettes) with the next disk in the set of diskettes you received. 6. Dismount the disk or tape volume ADEPT upon completion of the INSTALL procedure. If multiple diskettes were used, the volume to dismount is the last diskette to be mounted in Step #5.
